Topic: Malvern wins prep states Posted: Mar 04 2023 at 6:12pm |
For all intents & purposes I was born a villanova guy. Displayed an article by our friend Nate & followed with Flow results. I do apologize for never noticing a prep section. I will act according to script next time my bad.

So their team sucks, but they have a solid tournament team. Got it. Makes sense.

I know full well how tournament scoring works. I just think it’s interesting a so called weak team of 3 kids scored nearly the same as a full squad from Pennridge, who won a district title. And that’s not a knock against Pennridge.

Don't you understand how tournament scoring works? |

Well that's why there are tournament team rankings and dual meet team rankings. Obviously they have a good tournament team but don't appear to have a good dual meet team.
Them vs Pennridge in a dual meet wouldn't be close.

My guess is he does. And when you show up with 13 kids. From a “good team†All they have to do is win one match each and you have 26 points. Plus pin points. Tournament that include full team. Are sometimes won by the sub par kids on the team that can score points. Not the studs who you know are getting points.
Gilman is another team that didn’t finish in the top 10. But managed to finish well ahead of Nazareth , North Hampton. , and Rock South at the Beast.
Monkey boy. I agree with a lot of your points above in the other post. Except after the top 4 if falls off a cliff.
Short of Ironman. Which is by far the hardest. Powerade , beast ,ETR , Piaa states both division. Jersey states and National Preps are all very tough tournaments. If ranked they would vary different every year.
The post was started by a 60 yr old conestoga guy with no affiliation to Malvern other then being a fan. Nobody from Malvern commented ,bragged etc. until 2 clowns made there normal hate comments of stupidity. And no wrestling knowledge. I did not reply to defend Malvern. And start another sh$t show thread. Just stating the tournament is legit.

Yes, looks like Western Reserve Academy brought just 3 wrestlers to ETR and 2 placed (3rd and 6th). Pennridge brought 13 but none placed.
Pennridge team score 42 Western Reserve Academy 41.5

Amazing how you guys forget to put a real bullet in the chamber before you shoot one over the bow. Let’s not focus on the top 4 all being ranked in the top 8 nationally. Let’s focus on your not good teams after the top 10.
Western reserve was not in the top ten at Prep tournament But somehow tied District 1 champs Pennridge at ETR in team standings. |
Let's be honest, after those top 4 being ranked highly nationally - it falls completely off a cliff. Guess it's half-empty or half-full, right?
Just because a team places high at an individual tournament, doesn't mean they are a good TEAM. Look at the ETR results. Western Reserve only had 3 wrestlers there - 2 placed. At National Preps, they had only 5 wrestlers - but 3 placed. That's how they score points in a tournament. If they do dual meets, they probably lose most of them simply because they don't have the numbers.
Sadly that's the case for many prep schools. They might have 2-3 really good wrestlers but they also can't field a full lineup, or the lineup is full of brand new wrestlers. Look at some dual meet results between preps sometime, many are absolutely littered with forfeits [many with at least 5 or 6 of them].
Preps are like the PIAA and probably any other state association - you have some top tier teams that are really, really good, and you have many that are average at best.
