Wonder how people feel abou the NCAA changing a takedown to 3 points? Would you be in favor of that being adopted in HS?

I think it’s a terrible change! Take down specialists can easily get 6 in a period. Boom 18/3 1st period tech

I don't like it at all. I keep hearing people who like it saying that it "will create more scoring". I'm not sure that's true at all. It will create more points for a TD, but I'm not sure it will create more action or more successful scoring moves. In matches where you have 2 wrestlers at the same level, the one that gets the first TD is in a much better position to do nothing for the rest of the match.
Also, I don't want to see a TD tournament. Mat wrestling should matter.

When I was a kid, every takedown after the first was one point. They knew that the US sucked in freestyle, but made folkstyle rules that hurt freestyle wrestling anyway. When I was 12 I thought it was dumb.

Now this 3 point takedown is pushing the envelope in the other direction, encouraging catch and release.
I like mat wrestling. This is a step towards eliminating mat wrestling along with folkstyle wrestling. I suppose it's inevitable.

I like the 3-point takedown for college. They already made a change to promote mat wrestling with the 4-point Near Fall. This should promote more action in neutral. It makes it more difficult to win a match just with escapes and a riding point. For the takedown artists, they still need a Near Fall to earn a 5-point technical fall.
