Topic: La Salle is a powerhouse? Posted: Dec 20 2023 at 12:43pm |
Forgive me for being out of the loop, but I didn't expect to see LaSalle beat out Wyoming Seminary in team points at the Penn Manor tournament. I had known that they've built a huge base of student athletes over there and that the program was in good hands, but I wasn't expecting them to make noise outside of the D12 scene outside of maybe one or two kids at most.
But after looking at some of these early results they've not only got studs in Brennan and Morrissey but nearly an entire lineup of guys that wrestle solid. On the team level there is a lot of noise they can make, but ultimately what will stick in minds longer term is how the team does on the individual level.
I know this forum is mostly dead but this might be a team to kick a bit of outside interest back into D12 wrestling.

They are off to a great start but the Sem team that wrestled at Penn Manor was their 'B' team at best, all backups.

Ah, makes a bit more sense, I had figured maybe they were just having an off year. Nevertheless I am still impressed. That B team did beat everyone else, after all.

The results at the Parkland duals on Jan 6th indicate that they are a powerhouse this year.

Indeed. At the very least, in the dual meet sense, relative to D12. I would be shocked if the PCL finals has anything less than a 40 point spread.

It would be foolish to undermine the result of the last three years Youngbuck42. No doubt Lasalle has turned into a state level threat but to believe that the level of Conwell Egan has stayed stagnant is ludicrous. With both teams being the best they’ve been in years I’d say it would be rather close.
But what do I know

My mistake, I had not considered them when I made that prediction, it's easy to only think about the AAA teams when there are so few D12 AAs. But Conwell Egan is not a team to forget, that's for sure. Though, I do think Lasalle might have it this year. While Egan has some absolute studs, better than anyone Lasalle has, I'm not convinced they have the same team depth. Should be a good one.

Prep wrestling battles but loses to LaSalle 38-26. Back to work tomorrow! @SJPrep_Sports
Prep also has a very good team. 40 point spread may have been premature. I’m sure w Jim Savage as their coach they will be winning pcl titles very soon.

Wow, after looking through that boxscore, St. Joe's wrestled great. Savage and Courtney's boys have always duked it out in the semis, but I thought this year was going to be the furthest blowout so far. Instead, it was the closest its been. I will say, Lasalle missing Clair led to some less than optimal shuffling of the weights, but of course its all about wrestling the team you have, not what you wish you had. SJP's 215 and 152 stand out for their performances, but their 215 being a freshman and beating a senior is next level type stuff. Steel is sharpening steel in that room at the big weights.
