Unprofessional? Yup. Not posting pre-season rankings, just an alphabetized list of all 45 teams, letting them sort from there...Probably not a great season for our A teams, although a few at the top, like Burgettstown, are intriguing. All the action is at CH, but while most teams are starting this weekend, a lot of the top talent is not, so view results with a little skepticism. On a positive note, Knoch has 13 entries in the Hickory Tournament! Someone starts without their lineup intact, maybe they get it back over the season, that's always sucky & unpredictable, but it goes with the territory. Damn Burrell starts off slow...and Laurel needs a slight kick in the ass to do it, but could grow into a contender by years end. Let's hope it's fun, and good luck to all!
And just like that, there are some big lineups in these tournaments! And everyone was saying teams look down! Beaver Falls is still one guy, and there are some half teams like Riverview, North Catholic, Beaver, SSB looks almost bare, but overall if those numbers hold up, we could be just fine. JM missing a few returns but good #s, the JO talent is accounted for, too many people down to weight too early for my taste ( Bentworth's Daniels at 189), no Rudy Brown for B'town to open ( but he's on the squad, don't worry). Burgettstown has Tyler Cody at 215, last season that should have reversed the QV semi match, even without Suica. Let's see how quickly he shakes the rust off. Starting to feel the season now!
I think B'town, not quite 100%, could have a huge weekend, not that they need to, the rest of them have me hopeful but I see those other CH entries, even good ones like BC, as pretty far behind them. Knoch has me a little excited, although they are in the same room as Latrobe tonight, they'll take many losses.... Hampton and Highlands bring large line ups to a deleted tournament, they could do pretty well ( Welcome back to AA Ty Bender!). IF I am on point, we should have a good set of rankings this weekend ( well, good for not including Burrell, MP, QV, Derry, Belle Vernon, Frazier, hehe), looks like 28 teams active, that's enough to get it started, Burrell & the other boys will catch up over the next two weeks, and things will start looking normal. Remember, I am only actually calling for one big performance this weekend, but if say, I dunno, Highlands or Laurel wanna make some noise too, I'm watching.
Still waiting on full results from the dual tournaments before attempting rankings, but it looks like only Burgettstown could fill all 13 weights in the individual ones. The first set of rankings will be brutal to the 17 idle teams, give it two weeks, they'll look about right. Not a huge performance by Highlands it seems, but a good one. Hampton....maybe a little better than expected, looking over the results, Gabe Lilly of Beaver Falls takes a 3rd in one helluva tourney. A couple of these rookies really took me by surprise, that NEVER happens - Antonio Boni, Colin Whyte, Alex Medlen, Owen Ivcic, Joe Wilson- I was expecting something outta you, but some others really blindsided me!
