Registration for the Ohio Tournament of Champions,
to be held April 27, in Columbus, OH, remains open (thru April 23. Now
in its 27th year, the Ohio TofC is the largest one day youth wrestling
tournament in the country.
Due to scheduling conflicts, this year's event will
be held at the Ohio Expo Center, which is located approximately 4 miles
Northeast of Downtown Columbus and will be limited to the first
2500-2600 registered wrestlers, depending on how many mats we feel the
facility is capable of handling.
New this year is the addition of four age groups in
Girl's wrestling. Neither the Girl's Division, or the Open (post high
school wrestlers), require any pre-qualification. The Girl's Division
will place the top four wrestlers, the Open Division the top six and the
Boy's Division the top eight.
For the Boy's Divisions (high school and younger),
the following are some of the viable means of qualification. Additional
ways can be found on the OhioTofC website (www.ohiotofc.com):
*All High School wrestlers are eligible to compete, with no other qualification necessary.
*All Junior High & Kid's State qualifiers, from the past two seasons, (junior high and younger), are eligible to compete.
*Any Junior High or Youth wrestler that has placed
top 6, during the past two years, at any major National Level event, is
eligible to compete.
*Any Junior High or Youth wrestler that has won 10
or more matches, during the current wrestling season (October-April),
are eligible to compete.
*Any Junior High or Youth wrestler that has placed
first at any Tournament this season, (rookie events do not count), is
eligible to compete.
*Any Junior High or Youth wrestler that has placed
top 3, in any official Ohio TofC qualifying event, this season, is
eligible to compete.
Currently, registration is running far ahead of last
year's pace and it is anticipated that this year's event will close
out. So, it is highly recommended that those interested register prior
to April 17, to make sure they are not closed out.
Entry fee remains at $70 (additional wrestlers from
the same immediate family are only $50, as are all those entering the
Open or Girl's Divisions). Note: Those registering on April 22-23 are
subject to a $10 late fee penalty. Wrestlers also have until the night
of April 23 to change weights, at no fee.
In addition, those Clubs/Teams that are interested
in entering the Team competition have until March 1 to enter their group
at a discounted price. Winning Clubs/Teams can win gift certificates to
3X Gear-$1500 (Division 1) or Rudis Sportswear-$1000/$500 (Division 2
and 3). Second place finishing groups will earn a free one year Flo Pro
membership and third place groups will earn a $100 Defense Soap gift
certificate.
