Topic: D1 post-season tournament history NOW ONLINE Posted: Oct 27 2015 at 8:37am |
With November 16th being the first official day for practices of the 2015-16 season, I figured that's a good enough day to publish the District 1 post-season tournament brackets/results back to 1974.
Thanks to Jack Holt's tireless efforts in compiling these results! He's been able to locate and compile just about every single result for all D1 sections, districts, and regions back to 1974 when the PIAA split wrestling into 2 classifications. Perhaps once everything is published on the site, we'll be able to fill in what's missing (though it's not much).
So be sure to check back in the evening on Monday, November 16th for all the brackets.
In the meantime, I added a new page to the states results (same thing will appear with the D1 results) that shows details per school.
Here are some samples...
Hope to add some more ways to view the stats between now and the 16th.

Brilliant, thanks to you and Jack for all the hard work that went into this. It will be fun to see those results that may mean something only to OC, Jack and myself

If you want to see stats by post-season level, try these links:
Those are accessible now on the "live tournaments" main page...middle of the page in one of those drop-down boxes. These reports include ALL the various post-season tournaments we have right now, not just the D1 tourneys.

Mike nice job really enjoy your teams work. I saw one correction 1988 district south 155lb semifinal Dave Hurd was disqualified because he got cautioned out for stalling not for slam

Thanks guys...all credit goes to Jack for the research. The way he stored all the info made it really simple to import into this system to get it all online.
I'll check with Jack on that 1988 result...
Just a note, I am working on a site search that will allow you to find anything on the site. Not sure how soon that'll be ready but it is coming.

During the next off-season I intend to scan to Mike all the hardcopies of the brackets of these tournaments that I have. They should make for interesting reading, if only to see the changes in technology (how many people remember (or even know) what a mimeograph is?) Then it's on to the next (and more difficult phase) of the project: The D1 post-season from 1934 to 1973. Unfortunately there are sizable gaps in the records, especially sectional results from the 1960's and early 1970's, but I have all the champions from sections through regions and every runnerup but one (whoever Dick Macrone beat in 1962).

just chanced on this old post. Don't know if you've found your answer, Holtjack, but I passed the question by a couple of old wrestlers who were in the '62 sectional finals including one from Ridley, and they think it was Hugh Checkemian from Springfield. Hughie was section champ in '63 but I personally don't remember him making the finals in '62.
Ridley had a good team in '62 with two or three really fine wrestlers. Dick Macrone was Ridley's first D1 champ.

I always find it funny to stumble into to the ABSOLUTE dumbest collective of delusional fans in what is arguably the worst wrestling district in the state. When u compare how dominant the elementary kids are in SEPA to how far behind the HS kids are. But judging by the comments in here Im not surprised. Really is the dumbest Pennsylvanians outside of Johnstown
