Ah, Burgettstown...not quite full strength, not quite in perfect shape, but they may just win this large tournament, and if not, I can't see any AA teams coming within single digits of them. There are some other decent AA performances, JM is ready to wrestle. West Greene & AG we're mentioned in some pre- season rankings, from my perspective AG not, WG just maybe, but they are in the toughest section. Freedom starting sluggish, but they always do, they'll find their level. Hopewell not having a great tournament but I saw some individual performances from them that were solid. And Wash Hi has a 285, third year in a row they reloaded that weight, otherwise I actually think they may be better than what I'm seeing. Very cool start.
Also of relevance, Joey Sentipal of B'town handed Damon Michaels of EF the first regular season loss of his 3 year career tonight. Yep, he's gone to the post season undefeated twice.
Not a great morning for the Blue Devils, but this is a good tournament, we have many regional qualifiers who won't place...and will still be ranked on Monday. Weight changes...at 107, some wrestlers look like they are still really sucking, and 113 was thin a year ago, add a pound, 114 is just as thin. Win CH, you'll be ranked high, probably #1, I think we're getting back started here, will try to update later.
Solid showing for AA, I think 12 finalists, a place in every class, some good rookies, but I don't think the ones that reached the finals are the best...watch especially 114 and 215, these are wide open ( rankings wise), Montour surges a little today, and I think it's for real. Again, many top 12 AA WPIAL wrestlers did not place, this is a very good proving ground this season!
Wouldn't call it a huge comeback for Freedom on day 2, but there was definitely some redemption for last night. Section 1 looks like a decent group, Burgettstown could still possibly win it, not that they need to. JM faded a little, but these are packed brackets, I think they MIGHT still be a minor power this season, Framelli looks great, a lotta their non placers, almost all in fact, are half decent. Ft Cherry in a similar situation. CH is neither the smallest nor the worst team out there, too bad they have no section schedule. Just off the top of my head I can think of a half dozen regional qualifiers that did not place. Bentworth is much improved, and no one wants to finish last in such a big tournament, but someone has to, that's North Catholic behind 31 other squads, but this is right where they need to be to progress, they have a few that still may rank on wk 1. There are 5 places, and my feel for most of the matches is weak.
