My point exactly.... the hypothetical won over the absolute. HH beat GV, end of story. The rest of their schedule should matter for seeding against all others, but not someone they beat.
If the seeds are flipped, do we get the same results?? Does GV beat CRN... not likely Does HH beat Pennsbury?.... I don't know, but they earned the better matchup.

Re: Garnet v Haverford—My guess would be it was discussed at the meeting. In the head to head meeting, GV was without their state qualifier in the lineup- a significant swing in team points. More recently, GV finished ahead of Haverford in the league tournament despite missing multiple starters. Thirdly, Haverford’s dual meet schedule looked significantly weaker than GV— who is their best win outside of GV? No horse in the race for me, and no insight on how the meeting went. Just thought it was an interesting case. As it turns out, GV was the only lower seed to advance to the quarterfinals, so maybe there’s some justification in that, too. GV always seems to get stronger in January once all those football players (most of their lineup every year) shake off some rust/get on weight. |

One more Last memory before the Eagles play while listening to Michael Quick on 94.1. Freshman year Fall 1990 was not going to wrestle off but ended up going up to 177lb wrestled off Matt White. No problem during the year in the practice room with him. There is tape on this match but have not seen it anyway Matt head butted me by accident blood all over then Oishi says bring Brick (that is what he called me & still calls me) a mask. Coach Lorenzo proceeded to put a mask on me. I finish that much lose in overtime or by a point. Coaches say wrestle another match with Matt White because wrestle off was best out of three. Before too long we just said forget it. Funny part of the story is next week at East Strausburg open at 158lbs wrestle first match with a mask on with stitches default against Caro from Maryland.

Leaving Merrill Reese out of your reference to listening to 94.1 for an Eagles game is like going to D1 Duals to hope for a JV tournament instead of the Varsity. I love Quick too but C'mon man.

You are right Delco, Haverford did get hosed. They are having a great season and got disrespected because of reputations.

Looks like the seeds should have been:
5 Sun Valley 6 Oxford 7 Pennsbury
SV beat Oxford and CRS rolled CRN tonight. We might look back on this as one of the worst seeded D1 dual tournaments in the events history. Does Sun Valley beat Boyertown?

Problem was, Sun Valley had losses to Kennett and Garnet Valley on their belt.

No chance unless Boyertown is missing half their lineup.

I think Sun Valley can win at: 107 127 133 152 189
and have toss-ups at: 121 160
Maybe those toss-ups are a stretch, but I'd give Sun Valley at least a puncher's chance.
Line set at Boyertown -12.5 tho

In the once in a blue moon scenario that you pose, I think it's unlikely SV wins anyway. They probably need to win 8 because Boyertown is going to get like 5 pins.
SV needs to bump 107 anyhow and go for two wins at 107/114 which makes a win more likely at 114 anyway. 133, 152, 189, yeah, and probably 114 and 127. A couple of bonus points. Let's call that 18 points. Not sure where the next 12 are coming from.

Most likely Boyertown and CR South (pretty clearly the 2 best / most complete teams) will finish 1st and 3rd (in some order) and I would make both of them a solid favorite to make it from those spots in the state bracket. Whoever comes in 2nd should also make it, but would not have been favored if they had come in 3rd. 4D chess by the committee.

If the match happens, I really like Quakertown vs Oxford in the Semis. Oxford has a chance for an upset. They also could get blown out though.
I like Boyertown vs CRS too. Boyertown is the deeper team, IMO. CRS has some guys that are going to rack up bonus though. This one should be close.
Weigh ins Saturday morning will be interesting too. I think we may see some top guys weigh in at a higher weight class that they've wrestle at.
I'M NOT TRYING TO HIJACK THE TOPIC:
Check out the semifinal out in District 7 between Franklin Regional and Thomas Jefferson. I have no idea who's going to win.

Looks like those questioning the top 4 seeding might have been right.

For the record, this is who qualified to state duals from District 1, by seeds, the last 10 years
2024: 1, 2, 3, 4 2023: 3, 4, 1, 6 2022: 2, 1, 4, 3 2020: 3, 1, 2, 13 2019: 1, 2, 3, 5 2018: 1, 3, 2, 4 2017: 2, 1, 4, 6 2016: 1, 2, 3, 4 2015: 1, 2, 3, 4 2014: 1, 3, 5, 4
Meaning the top 4 seeds have qualified for states 87% of the time the last decade.
Now 6A basketball, which uses a power point system, who finished in the top 4 the last decade? 2024: 1, 14, 2, 4 2023: 3, 1, 2, 5 2022: 2, 12, 3, 1 2020: 1, 3, 4, 7 2019: 1, 2, 3, 4 2018: 1, 2, 3, 4 2017: 4, 3, 2, 8 2016: 2, 9, 4, 11 2015: 4, 6, 7, 9 2014: 2, 5, 1, 14
Which makes it 72% of the time the top 4 seeds finished in the top 4. |
