Thanks for the rankings. It was a fun year throughout the district. I have a question about 127 rankings. I was looking at matchups and it seems that Waltenbaugh has wins over Boyer and Delaney who are both ahead of him. He placed 1st at regionals and 7th at states, just wondering if there was an oversight. Anyone have an idea about this? Thanks. Also, congrats to all the district 1 placers and champs. Gaj had a heck of a season and tournament, thought he could have been named OW.

How do you end up with the most first place votes. And 3rd in the standings?
Especially when the second place finisher has no first place votes

The kid from CRS actually apologized to the Sun Valley kid(great character and integrity from the CRS kid for approaching him) The Sun Valley kid is a state qualifier(no doubt in my mind). It was a misfortune and a bad call. It is a shame that he is still being punished for something that he didn't do. He beat the Kennett kid 3 times. He beat everyone on that list that he wrestled except the CRS kid and the WCH kid. BTW, watch the tape. He actually tied the WCH kid at the end of the match but the ref didn't give him the call. The whistle and the takedown happened at the same time. The WCH kid won the regional last year on a last second call. So, It happens.

The method used is written at the top of the rankings page.  The rankers can vote for whoever they want.  The points fall where they fall.  At 114 someone one voted a wrestler that injury defaulted out of regions in the first round as number 1 in the region.  I guess it comes down to just their view of a wrestler's total body of work during the season.  I'm not sure i completely understand why FCA wrestler's are part of this ranking other than the school is in District 1.  They don't compete in the District 1 3A sections or 3A South East Region.   I suspect most if not all of the rankers are District 1 3A coaches or former wrestlers so results are slightly biased in favor of the wrestlers competing in D1 3A.

Waltenbaugh should def be ranked ahead of Boyer and Delaney because of the head-to-heads. On the other hand, I also don't believe 2A medalists should automatically be ranked ahead of 3A non-medalists. The depth disparity of the 2 classes is very evident these days.

189 has been a little odd all season.  Not that they don't have it right, but there seems to be something weird going on between a couple of rankers.

Going back to January, the OJR kid who dropped to 189 lost to the Strath haven kid and the very next rankings, gets a single 1st place vote and the Strath haven kid gets the rest.  Doesn't really make sense given the bodies of work/ages (OJR kid is a freshman), and the head to head result.

Now though OJR guy wins regions and finishes 6th in states and gets all first place votes in the last rankings (justifiably), except for the single vote going to the Strath haven guy.

Was that retribution for the earlier unjustified stray first place vote?

Here is the issue with your thought process, wins don't always translate to rankings. You see it all time in all sports, football, basketball and wrestling. Alabama losses to LSU and Alabama is still ranked ahead of LSU the next week. Does anyone really believe that Ramos is better than Lee? Very few people would rank Ramos ahead of Lee, today, right? However, Ramos will finish ahead of him in the standings.

So the question is who is right? The lone guy that ranked Bechtold 1st earlier than everyone else? He placed first at regions and 6th in the state. Seems like he was right all along? Or is the the ranker that voted for Milligan at the end of the season since he did have good wins over Bechtold and Allred earlier in the season? Maybe that ranker believes Milligan would win more often than not.

Rankings are opinions - not facts. Placement are facts - not opinions. Someitmes they align, sometimes they don't!

Now that Lee wd from the tournament does he automatically get 6th place finish by default or does he have to wrestle to get 6th and AA status?

Incredible match and performance by Ramos. He kept pushing and working and it paid off

Looks like 3 of the 11 rankers didn't include Waltenbaugh on their ballots.  That's why he was ranked lower.  My guess would be simply an oversight on their part.

That's the reason.  The rankings are District 1.  Not District 1 AAA.

that is the crux of the question, is the ranking "who i think will win?" or is it "lets put them in order based on accomlishments and resume?"  Typically the last rankings basically reconcile itself with the post season finishes.  I don't care either way but even though the order might be right, I wonder about those stray first place votes when they don't align with results.

Dean absolutely dominated Milligan at regionals. Milligan is a great athlete and has a bright future at Bucknell for football, but no reason he should've gotten a vote over Bechtold at this point.

I have watched that match frame by frame in slow motion and was amazed by the quick thinking on the fly by Ramos.

Ramos released his right arm mid roll to hook under Lee's left arm, keeping Lee from rolling through.
