Super 32 is underway.  The weight classes are huge.

Looking at the brackets at 126, you might note that Sement lost the first round (Round of 256) 5-1, but won the second round, 3-2.  How did he advance while losing?  They got the colors wrong.  I mean, the kid has his name on the back of his singlet. You'd think someone would have noticed?

Botero is through to the round of 32. His last match against a WV kid was interesting. With a few seconds to go in the 1st, Gauge threw a cradle and had the kid flat. The ref called the pin, but time had expired just as his hand came down, so they went to the 2nd. Botero had choice and he chose top. I saw him look over to his coach and give him a look, as if to say, "I can finish this whenever I want. Why waste energy on another takedown?"  He threw another cradle and decked the kid.

Sement has made it to the round of 32 as well with a win over a NC kid. He faces Parkins of Nazareth next.

I watched Gaj's quarterfinal. I admit that I'm biased but I thought he should have been awarded a takedown and back points early in the second period. He hit the Jason Nolf move. He wasn't awarded anything and gave up a takedown in the scramble. The wrestler who beat Gaj went on to win the tournament.

I agree, but I have a problem in general with the "Winn Dixie" move. It happens so little that most refs have never seen it and many times it is only in place a few seconds before the bottom guy is able to escape. In many cases, it can look like part of the scramble and is missed since the control portion is so unorthodox. Body position and the ref's position to see it clearly also play a big part in it.

Gaj is a fantastic wrestler and he will be dominant this year in PA and in the next few years at the national level. I think there is a good chance he finishes his HS career with at least 2 State Championships if not 3. He will probably have his choice in where he wants to wrestle at the collegiate level as well.
