http://papreplive.com/football/2016/10/20/octorara-to-leave-ches-mont-and-district-1-join-district-3s-lancaster-lebanon-league-in-2018/

Just came across this article. Starting in 2018, Octorara will be leaving the District 1's Ches-Mont (American Division) to join District 3's Lancaster-Lebanon league. This leaves the question of how this is going to affect the Ches-Mont. The article doesn't explicitly state how this is going to affect the Ches-Mont in terms of realignment. I am curious to see how this affects both the scheduling and the Ches-Mont league tournament in the future.

According to the PIAA, District 1 has 63 AAA schools and District 3 has 58 schools for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons. District 1 will have 62 schools while District 3 will have 59 schools for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons once Octorara is in District 3 which shouldn't impact the 5th state qualifier we receive granted everything else remains constant.

Right now, the American Division has 7 wrestling programs and the National Division has 6 because Bishop Shanahan doesn't have a program. In two years, each division will have 6. Will that create a need for realignment?
The Pac 10 has 12 teams and I assume will now get 6 qualifiers for districts. The only thing that may change in the Ches Mont tourney is the # of wrestlers qualifying for districts dropping from 7 to 6.

Bishop Shanahan needs a boys program. Maybe they try and do the first girls Team in D1 at the same time, it would be great for the sport.

Agreed, I have wondered the same thing for a long time. If Bishop Shanahan ever started up a wrestling program, it would definitely help compensate for the upcoming loss in Octorara.

They had one for a few years. I'm pretty sure one of the wrestlers dads was the coach and as soon as he graduated the program folded.

Al Holeton was coaching the Bishop Shanahan team when it first started. He was a great coach and volunteered a lot of his time to try to get it up and running. The support that the wrestling team received by the Nun in charge at the time was almost non-existent. He stuck with it while his son was there, but once he graduated it was time to move on. I believe it was the nuns decision to drop the program at that time (honestly surprised she didn't make the decision sooner). That woman is no longer there so perhaps they could look back into starting the program back up.

BSHS Students wrestle in a Co-op with Coatesville... since many young men (a plurality of the students) at BSHS are from Coatesville it's a logical fit. It's tough to start up a wrestling program at school like that where one dropped off before and that doesn't have a history of providing a ton of funding for their sports programs (except FH and LAX)! With DE, DW, Coatesville and Henderson/other WCHS's the natural area for kids to go to BSHS. DE, DW and WC HS's are all good schools with good wrestling programs so your not going to see a big exodus to wrestle go to new program.
It would take years and lots of funding!

The less private schools with wrestling programs the better.

Charles, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Yea, let's cut back on opportunities for kids to participate in our sport. It's already hurting enough at the collegiate level, no need to damage it at high school. Please explain your terrible line of thinking.

Charles it is America that we live in and there are choices you can make. Don't really want to get into the old public  vs private school debate that has been on the forum way to many times. Take care of you own house and build the best program you can and the rest will take care of it self.

Well if Hontz goes to PJP maybe Charles would apply for the assistants job and be in charge of recruiting

Me too, my comment was very tongue in cheek. Hontz is one of the best coaches around and everything I know of him, a good man. Probably the strongest pre-match smack in the a$$ out of anyone, as well.

Again it's up to parents to make proper decision for their families and kids... why would it bother you or anyone else? BTW Saint Joseph's Prep will win 3rd state championship in 4 years in biggest PIAA football classification! And you know who will win AAA PIAA Wrestling championships. Just the way it is!

Yes, Tuna, you are correct. And that's exactly the problem. The only one who cares a little bit about the success of those prep schools are the families and some alumni. Prep schools are destroying sports because they don't have community backing, because they have kids from all over the state and bordering states. Meanwhile, public schools are weakened, and thus get less community support because they're not as good as many public schools used to be before the world of recruiting. I am perfectly fine with Bishop Shanahan not having a wrestling program and I hope more and more prep schools lose them.
